Dr. Shu Hyun Yoon


Yoon, Dr. Shu, age 89, of Dartmouth, passed away on May 30, 2018 peacefully, at home.
Born in North Korea, he was a son of the late Yoon Young Sam and Suh Bok Ki.
Before moving to North America, he met the love of his life Suk Ho Chang in South Korea. Dr. Yoon was an urologist at the Halifax Infirmary, Camp Hill, Dartmouth General Hospitals and in private practice for many years. He was an active member of the Halifax Korean Church and the Atlantic School of Theology. He was a published author with a constant pursuit of knowledge who always had time for a game of golf. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Dr. Yoon is survived by his sons, Dr. Robert “Bob” (Beverley) Yoon, Mass., USA, Michael (Sandra) Yoon, Mass., USA; grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie, Jacob, Joshua, and Daniel; and many extended family members.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Suk; and his two brothers.
Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Tuesday June 5th in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. The funeral service will take place at 1:30pm on Wednesday June 6th in the funeral home chapel, with a reception to follow. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Halifax Korean Church or the Atlantic School of Theology.
Special thanks to all of the people over the years who have loved and cared for him like family.

To the family of the late Dr. Shu Hyun Yoon: It is with deep regret that Doctors Nova Scotia received word of the death of your family member, Dr. Shu Hyun Yoon. I know I speak for all of our members when I extend to you and your family the association’s sincerest sympathy. Doctors Nova Scotia has made a contribution to the Memorial Fund for Nova Scotia Physicians in memory of Dr. Yoon. The fund was established in 1975 to honour the memory of its deceased members. The income from the memorial fund is used to support the education of students in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University. Dear Bob and family, please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your father. Interesting how our lives cross paths. My mother passed the day after your Dad.
