Obituary Overview

E. Grant McCurdy

McCurdy, Edward Grant (90), Dartmouth. It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Grant McCurdy at home on February 2, 2022. Born in Middle Musquodoboit, he was the son of Roy and Alice McCurdy.

Grant leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years Betty Lorraine (Croft), four children Gary (Sylvie), Ken (Shelley), Karen (Don Gorman), Margaret (Paul Brigley) and nine grandchildren (Tia, Cleau, Karly, Kyle, Michael, Jeremy, Andrea, Matthew, Jordan). Also left behind are his sister Margaret (Doug Clarke), sister-in-law Joan McCurdy, and many nieces and nephews. Grant was predeceased by his two brothers Frank and Gerald, sister Mary, brother-in-law Percy Fisk, and sister-in-law Doris McCurdy.

Grant was a respected contractor and the business he started with his brother Gerald (McCurdy Bros) built many quality homes in Dartmouth – including the one he lived in to his end. Grant had an entrepreneurial spirit and instilled the virtues of hard work and commitment to his family. He was a man true to his convictions, and unequivocally proud of his children’s accomplishments.

Grant was passionate about the outdoors, an avid hunter, fisherman, and a dedicated woodlot owner. His Christmas tree lot was a hidden gem for friends and family. Grant was a proud gardener, and many enjoyed the fruits of his labour. He and Betty mastered the art of preserving the many fruits and vegetables grown.

For decades Grant enjoyed high stakes Rummoli with his close friends – the family will be rolling pennies for years to come!

In memory of his cherished time with friends, enjoy a ‘Friday Happy Hour’ in Grant’s honour!

A private memorial service in celebration of Grant’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 8th at 2:00pm. Due to COVID restrictions, attendance is limited and by invitation only. Family flowers only.

Livestreaming of the service will be available by visiting Grant’s memorial page on the funeral home website.

So sorry to hear of Grant’s passing. He was a long time friend to my dad and mom . (George and Mary MacQuarrie). Some of my earliest memories were driving “out to the camp” on the weekend for a visit. (I believe Dad and Grant built it together?) I will always remember Grant for his kind and gentle disposition and the fondness my mom and dad had for him and his family. Grant visited my mom in the hospital in her last remaining months and when I came to see her last year, she would light up when talking about his visits. Condolences to the family from myself and the rest of the MacQuarrie children: Martha, Moira, Ranald and Ian.
