Jack Murphy

Obituary Overview

Jack Murphy

Murphy, John “Jack” Allen - It is with sadness that the children of Jack Murphy,90, of East Dover share the news that he has passed away at home on January 25th, 2022 with family at his side. Born in Halifax, he was the only son of the late Allen and Hermance (Thibideau) Murphy. Dad retired from CNR after 35 ½ years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his day and enjoyed riding his ATV with his friends - going on many trips to Cape Breton. He spent many enjoyable hours creating a “Highway to Heaven” by building a wooden boardwalk to the camps and cottages on Power’s Lake. Dad has now saved enough to pay the high toll to cross over on his journey to Heaven. Dad is survived by his children, Peggy Scott (Roy), Bernie, both of East Dover; Jimmy (Susan), Amherst; Mary Billard, Halifax; Allan (Cindy) of East Dover’ Marilyn Ryan (Andrew), of Prospect; Terry (Heather) of East Dover, 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sisters Joan Brennan, Yvonne Schwartz and Pauline Bartlett. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife in 2018, Rita (Osborne), and a sister, Elaine Grandy. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Cremation has taken place.

Funeral Mass will be held 11 am Saturday, April 30th at St. Joseph Church, Shad Bay. Reception and burial to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Thomas Cemetery, 5725 Prospect Road, Big Lake, N. S. B3Z 3X7. Online condolences may be made by visiting the Halifax chapel at www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com

Our deepest condolences to all of Jack's dear family and friends. Jack was a special man. He was a great friend to my dad, Roy. They worked together at CN. After my dad passed away when we were teenagers, Jack made sure to keep in contact to check in on Mom, Allan and me. We appreciated his thoughtfulness so very much and his connection to the memory of dad. We will miss you Jack and we hope you and dad are having a visit and catching up. Hugs and Prayers. Joan, Marion and Allan Dewar.
