HIRE, Kenneth Owen
Age 86, of Lower Sackville passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side at the Palliative Care Unit of the VG Hospital on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. Born November 1, 1931 in Halifax, he was a son of the late Owen Roberts Hire and Edna (Veith) Hire. Ken enjoyed many years of retirement after a 40 year career as a printer for the Chronicle Herald Newspaper. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Marcella (LeBlanc) Hire; his loving children, William “Bill” Hire (Wendy Pike) and Cynthia “Cindy” Teal (Bill Kervin); step-children, Donna, Pam, Gary, and Chris Davis; cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Miller, Shauna Flynn, Mitchell, and Gordie Hire; step-grandchildren, Reggie Stephen, Alicia Tingley, Alison Geldart, Victoria and Vanessa David, Kendra King, and Alissa Davis; 6 great-grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren; dear siblings, Shirley O’Sullivan and Ronald Hire (Darlene); many nieces, nephews and extended family. Ken was predeceased by his first wife Ruby (Dowding) Hire; sisters, Joan, Joyce, and Barbara; brother, John “Jackie” Hire. A special thank you to the Palliative Staff of the VG, VON, and Dr. L. Mallory for all of their care and compassion. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr. The funeral service will take place on Monday, January 29 at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 954 Old Sackville Rd. For those wishing, donations to a charity of your choice in memory of Ken would be appreciated. Online condolences may be sent to Sackville Chapel.
