It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Michael Robert Cooke “Big Daddy”, age 61 of Amherst on Wednesday, June 16, 2021.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Donald and Katherine (Halfkenny) Cooke.
Mike was a licensed HAM radio operator and enjoyed talking to people around the world. Drag racing with his race car “BAD ACTOR” was a passion and he could be found at different speedways around the Maritimes.
He was a lifelong enthusiast for restoring automobiles. He was owner and operator for several years of MRC Trucking. Mike was also certified as an Industrial Mechanical Engineer.
Fondly referred to as #2, Mike will be remembered for being the ultimate good samaritan.
Mike will be dearly missed by his partner Mary Smith; siblings, David (Carolyn), Amherst, Margaret B. Fox (Gary), Springfield, MI, Elizabeth Cooke-Sumbu (Ignace), Amherst, Darlene Strong, Brookdale, Edwin (Nadine), Amherst; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and special friends.
Besides his parents, Michael was predeceased by his brother Donnie (2012); brother in law Eric Strong.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at 2 pm in the Amherst Cemetery, with Rev. Jonathan Cole officiating.
We asked that immediate and extended family only attend due to COVID Restrictions and that social distancing be respected.
The service will be live streamed for those not in attendance.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the Revival Centre, Amherst or to the charity of your choice.

I wasn't informed until recently ,so shocked and sorry to hear of Mike's passing ,my sympathy and condolences go out to the family , I've known Mike for many years .He was the one who helped me with car problems , a smart certified technician , skilled and talented , he will definitely no doubt will be missed by many .
