It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Adolfo J. de Bold announces his passing, peacefully surrounded by family on October 22, 2021.
Dr. de Bold revolutionized cardiovascular research with his discovery which is still considered one of the major cardiovascular discoveries of the past 50 years. The discovery deepened scientific understanding of the heart’s physiology and function and opened up an entirely new field of research. His work has been cited in more than 27,000 scientific papers worldwide making him one of the most cited Canadian authors and is considered the father of cardiovascular endocrinology.
An emeritus professor with Faculty of Medicine’s Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, his work was recognized internationally through various awards, followships, and honorary degrees. Among them, a recipient of Canada’s highest civilian honor, an appointment to the Order of Canada, he was inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, and a laureate of the prestigious Grand Prix scientifique de la Fondation Lefoulon-Delalandeat the Institut de Francefor a lifetime of cardiovascular research excellence.
Dr de Bold was laid to rest in a private family ceremony. He is survived by his wife, sister, five children and five grandchildren. Details about a celebration of life will announced at a later date.
