Obituary Overview

Gordon Balanduk.

June 30, 1939 – July 8, 2020

We are very sad to announce the sudden passing of Gordon Balanduk.

Gord is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barb, his sons Dave (Beth), Phil, and Barry (Marcella). He will be missed by his grandchildren Alex, Christie, and Allyssa, and also by his sisters-in-law Diane (Ray and family), Margaret (and family), and brother-in-law Doug, who he could talk with for hours trying to figure out how to win the big one. Gord was predeceased by his mother Pauline, Auntie Ann and Uncle Paul, and grandson Danny.
Gord began his career at the Board of Grain Commission. He then worked for the Federal Government before moving on to Red River Community College in 1969. He became a Registered Industrial Accountant in 1973. Gord also taught night classes for the Certified Management Accountants at the University of Manitoba. He was very proud of his career as an instructor which lasted 35 years before he retired in 2004.

Gord was the ultimate homebody and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed handicapping the horse races at Assiniboia Downs, trying out his ‘system’ on the casino machines, and playing the lottery. Dementia made these hobbies too difficult as the years went by.

A true animal lover, Gord loved the family dogs, fed the backyard rabbits and birds, and rescued the flies and spiders that made it into the house.

The family would like to thank the 911 Operator, the First Responders, the St. Boniface Hospital ER staff, and Dr. Barac and the wonderful staff in the ACCU for their caring and compassion during this terribly difficult time.
In accordance with Gordon’s wishes, cremation and a private family interment service have taken place.

Gordon and I were instuctors at Red RIver Community Colleage for many years. He was known as the Johnnny Carson of the Accountung Department! If we ever needed a joke, he always had one or two at the ready! May his debits always equal his credits! What a great guy!
