Blackstone, William Baird September 24, 1945 – January 23, 2021
Our shattered hearts regretfully announce the passing of our patriarch, William Baird Blackstone known to most as Bairdo. He is survived by his wife of 40 + years, Teresa Blackstone, three children Gavan (Joe), Zach, Karina (Kenny), granddaughters Jocelyn and Julia, brother Robert (Randee), in-laws Margaret and Lyle Warmington, Robert and Xinia Slomen, and his faithful dog, Princeton.
Baird was born and raised in Waukesha,Wisconsin; son of Herbert and Jessie Anne Blackstone. Baird attended Kalamazoo College for his undergraduate degree and moved to Canada in 1968 with daughter Gavan and his then wife, Renee.
Baird was predeceased by his parents and siblings James, Nancy, Anne and Barbara.
Baird was loved by family and friends alike for his ability to show he cared with big bear hugs, lots of time for talk, an immense vocabulary, and an academic depth and rigor on so many topics.
He enjoyed several careers during his working life; as a writer/editor, high school English/drama teacher, and in senior labour relations positions with School District #36, Health Employers Association BC, B.C. Ambulance Service, and most recently Community Social Services Employers Association of BC.
As well, Baird did much to give back to the community by volunteering his time on various boards: Kinsmen, Delta Heritage Society, Delta Options Society and, for the past 10 years, as VP with Lookout Housing and Health Society.
Baird was also very passionate about live professional theater and launched a blog, Broken Leg Reviews, which recorded his take on some 50 Vancouver area plays per season. http://brokenlegreviews.blogspot.com/
Baird loved to stay active by working out, bicycle trips locally and in Europe, ski holidays with family, and summers at their off-grid, lakefront cabin in the Cariboo.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
A celebration of life will be held in the future once the pandemic has passed.
Donations in Baird’s memory can be made to Lookout Housing and Health Society. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/58733
Condolences from family and friends

Baird, I have not met you directly. I do know you through your daughter Gavan, as she is a co-worker with the Job One Ministry Team. You have raised Gavan to be a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, intrapreneur, and believer in Christ Jesus. Your legacy continues on in your wife, children, and grandchildren. I read your 1987 discovery of a county church in which you wrote about the experience through a poet's heart with spiritual furvert in Word and Hymn. God's Blessings to come. Romans 8:9-11
