We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Rummy Serediuk. He is survived by his daughter Zoe and husband David Leiser, grandchildren Benson, Zade, Macey and brother Joe. Rummy was predeceased by his wife Lola, father Wasly, mother Anna and younger brother Tommy.
Born and raised in Calgary, Rummy worked for 36 years at Shell Canada as a Financial Accountant. He also served as the Treasurer, Controller, and Director of the Shell Credit Union since 1956. Outside of work, he was a proud member of the YMCA for over 70 years as well as holding a number of positions with the Lakeview community, including President.
Sports and physical activity were extremely important to Rummy. He had a love and passion for wrestling, golf, handball, football and rugby. He was one of the original members of the Calgary Hornets Rugby Club, and he also was the key person to organize the first Alberta Weightlifting Championship. After playing football for the Calgary Colts, where they won a provincial championship, he went on to coach the Calgary Mighty Mites football club to become city champions.
The one sport that truly defined Rummy was wrestling. Rummy spent a good portion of his life involved in the sport of wrestling as an athlete, coach, official and administrator. Rummy was a 7 time provincial champion and also competed at the national level. He coached at-risk teenagers at the Calgary Boys and Girls Club and William Roper Hall. He also started a wrestling program in both the Calgary school systems as well as at the University of Calgary. His biggest love was coaching wrestling at SAIT leading the “Rummy Raiders” to numerous ACAC championships. He was most proud of his inductions into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame as a builder in wrestling and the SAIT wall of distinction.
A Celebration of Rummy’s life will be held at Eden Brook Funeral Home, (corner of 17th Ave. SW and Lower Springbank Rd) Calgary, on Friday, December 16, 2022, at 2 PM.

Dear Zoe and Family,
Your Mom and my Dad, Keith Campbell, were first cousins, and Lola and Rummy used to visit us at my grandparents farm at Stavely often. Your grandfather Albert, and my grandmother Liola, were brother and sister. Rummy was always a sweetheart—visiting with us kids with kindness and intelligence—a rare thing in those days!
May their memories be a blessing.
Condolences, Suzan
Dear Family of Rummy, It was with much sadness that my family heard of Rummy's passing. His name was often mentioned in our house as a friend of my dearly departed husband and dad, Bill Fowle, who was also an employee of Shell Canada. Bill golfed many a game together with Rummy and his brothers , enjoying every minute of it. I always found Rummy to be a most congenial gentleman. It was a delight to be in his company. Please accept out deepest condolences. May he rest in Peace. From, Connie Fowle and Family
