Les passed unexpectedly at home in Dartmouth, on June 11, 2022.
Born and raised in Sandy Point/ St. Georges, Newfoundland, Les was predeceased by his parents Maxfield and Josephine (Ryan) Fillatre, and sister Eileen Boyd.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 52 years, Theresa (Douthwright); daughter Leah Fillatre; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marilyn (Brian) MacKay, Upper Stewiacke, Sheila Douthwright (Darrell Toole), Edmonton, Mahlon Kaulback (late Susan), Cole Harbour, Eric Boyd (late Eileen), NL; and many nieces and nephews.
Les was a gentle soul, who loved philosophy; travel; a good debate; Roman history; making people laugh; and a good Montreal Canadiens game. Having worked for NS Drug Dependency/Addiction Services for over 30 years, Les retired and he and Theresa purchased an oceanfront cottage in Marshville, Pictou County and made it their own. Les appreciated watching amazing sunsets over the Northumberland Strait from the cottage deck, often with a good red vintage and his favourite music.
Friends and family are invited to a simple gathering of remembrance from 6:30 to 8pm on Friday June 17 th in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street Dartmouth. We will raise a glass in Les’ memory at 7pm to honour the man he was.
No flowers by family request. As Les was a frequent donor to Canadian Blood Services, blood donations in his memory would be appreciated.
We cannot express to you just how sorry we are to hear of Les's recent passing. He was an incredibly special man & so kind to his neighbours (our parents) for over 40 years. May Heaven embrace him. He will be dearly missed. May he RIP. With all our love, prayers & support, Anne & David Tivey
