Obituary Overview

Lesleigh Smith

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Lesleigh Smith, age 53, on February 13, 2021 with her daughter and fiancé by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by her father Ted, brother Teddy, and mother Kathleen. Lovingly remembered by her daughter Victoria (Joshua), fiancé Damien, mother Judy, brothers John (Kathy) and Mike (Kattrina), best friend Jarrie (Robin), as well as her many beloved family members, friends, and colleagues whose lives will be forever changed by the beauty of her existence.

When Lesleigh was born in Daytona, Florida on September 4, 1967 the world blossomed around her. Although she moved around quite a bit as a child, her kind-hearted nature and charisma made it easy for her to make new friends everywhere she went. Growing up she developed a deep love of music and could be found belting out rock and roll ballads in her powerful, soulful singing voice. After she graduated from highschool, Lesleigh joined the military. Shortly afterwards she was delighted to find out that she was pregnant with a baby girl. Lesleigh fell into motherhood so naturally and raised Victoria to have the same joie de vivre that she embodied. She never wavered in her resolve to cultivate a sense of wonder, compassion, and morality in her baby girl, despite the many challenges of being a single mother. The open and honest bond that she and her daughter share will always be one of the greatest joys of their lives. Another profound source of happiness in her life was the love she shared with her fiancé Damien. It was clear by the way she looked at him that their love was healing to her soul.

Anything Lesleigh did, she did with intense passion, whether it be singing in one of her many rock or folk bands, salsa dancing, training for marathons, leading a project at work, playing her ukulele, travelling the world, or loving her family and friends. She had a way of making new friends feel like family, and she was the glue that held her family together. She inspired everyone she met with her eternal optimism, which never faltered even in the face of cancer. Lesleigh lived with a tremendous grace we can all aspire to. Her memory lives infinitely within each of us fortunate to know her.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring when the scenery and weather are akin to Lesleigh’s beautiful soul, and all who loved her can attend. Details will be shared once they are available. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kelly Funeral Home - Somerset Chapel (613-235-6712). In Memoriam donations to Colorectal Cancer Canada or to The Ottawa Hospital Foundation appreciated.
