With over 12,000 square feet, our location offers a large chapel, a private visitation room and a beautiful reception centre, where family and friends can meet during visitation services and following funeral or memorial services.

Funeral Home Manager Laura Van Sprang

Laura began her career in Funeral Service with Arbor Memorial Inc. in 2008 and moved to beautiful Victoria in 2017 to continue her career with Arbor and join the Sands Victoria team as Funeral Home Manager. Laura is extremely passionate about her career and feels privileged to lead this amazing team and serve families with professionalism, compassion and genuine care. Laura enjoys working with various organizations, assisting with raising funds for charitable causes, as well as hosting events at Sands Victoria Funeral Chapel to get to know her community better. Laura and her husband Sean enjoy spending time with their Boston terrier Brutus “Lil Brut”, taking long walks, dining out and are enjoying their new Island life.

Assistant Funeral Home Manager Anthony Black

Anthony began his career in Funeral Service as an apprentice funeral director in 2006. He moved to Victoria to join the Sands Victoria Team in 2007 and completed his training in 2008. He now proudly serves as the Assistant Manager at Sands Victoria. Anthony is of Coast Salish heritage and has vast family ties to the surrounding Victoria indigenous communities. He enjoys helping people and is actively involved with community organizations. He is a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows Victoria Lodge #1. Anthony and his husband Vedran enjoy travelling, cycling and exploring the outdoors.

Pre-Planning Director and Aftercare Specialist Huntly Ketchen

Huntly started under the Arbor umbrella at Hatley Memorial Gardens in 2017. After becoming proficient helping families with interment procedures and products Huntly joined the Sands Victoria team as their Pre-Planning Director and Aftercare Specialist. Huntly settled in Victoria in 1995 and when he is not being of service to individuals, you will find him fundraising for charities and attending benefits. Warm weather finds Huntly tenting, fishing, boating and enjoying time at Lake Cowichan.

Senior Funeral Director and Embalmer Brad Baker

Brad’s life commitment to Funeral Service started in 1978.  Since 2018, he is proud to belong to the very compassionate and professional team of Sands Victoria.  Brad has been a dedicated employee in Service Excellence with Arbor Memorial since 2005. He was born in Calgary and raised on the family Dairy Farm near Bonnyville, Alberta.  Brad proudly represents Sands in a variety of community activities and as a newcomer to the Island, he has been enjoying the beauty and adventures that Victoria has to offer.  Brad is defined as a true Ambassador to Funeral Service and is gratified knowing he makes a positive impact with all that he receives into the provision of his care.

Apprentice Funeral Director and Embalmer Lindsey Randolph

Lindsey became an apprentice in 2018 with Sands and will be graduating from the Canadian College of Funeral Service in September, 2020. Lindsey has lived on Vancouver Island her whole life, as she grew up in Sooke and moved to Victoria in 2019. She has been involved with many different community organizations, volunteered at various youth events, as well as other charitable and public events in both Sooke and Victoria. When Lindsey isn't at Sands, she enjoys spending her time going on adventures across the Island with her partner, Sean and their Miniature Dachshund, Pepper, as well as visiting her parent's farm in Sooke.

Branch Administrator Jo-Anne Cannon

Jo-Anne was born and raised in Victoria, and is a new-comer to Funeral Service, having joined Sands Victoria in September 2018.  She quickly embraced the caring and compassionate nature of the business and is proud to be a “part of”. Jo-Anne’s passions include her family and friends, volunteering within the community, and her beloved Yankees.

In-house Florist Erin from Petals Plus Floral Design

Having worked in the floral industry for almost a decade Erin brings all her passion and expertise when designing custom arrangements for our numerous clients. After taking over Petals Plus Floral Design in 2017 Erin has gone on to place fifth and forth consecutively in the Maple Leaf Cup; a National floral competition held every spring. Her real passion however is grounded in creating bespoke sympathy sprays and arrangements for all of our Vancouver Island locations. Using flowers sourced locally whenever possible, this Victoria native will be sure to support and honour the memory of your loved one with the unique displays she creates.
