It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matthew Moroz at the age of 89 years, who passed away on March 14th, 2018 peaceably with family by his side at the Robins Pavilion, Royal Alexander Hospital. Matthew was born in Saskatchewan on October 19, 1928, the eldest of his Ukrainian immigrant parents Dora and Wasyl Moroz where he shared a small farm house with his many brothers and sisters. He loved his family, his friends, playing crib, his food, his wine, his Acreage, his garden, his cabin in Ross Haven and of course watching and analyzing the Edmonton Oilers. Matt loved life and fought to live as long as he could. He will leave a big hole in many people's hearts. Matthew is survived by his wife of 35 years, Margaret Moroz, and his stepchildren Russell (Roseanne), Patrick (Judy), Lorraine (Don), and Sandra. Also his three daughters Dawn (Donovan), Candis (Roger) and Diane (Darrell). His daughter Cindy who predeceased him was and is greatly missed. Matt had many brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and really good friends who made Matthew feel very special and loved. A celebration of Matthews’s life will be held at Evergreen Funeral Chapel, 16204 Fort Road Edmonton, Alberta on March 26th, 2018 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Lung Association in memory of Matthew.
My sincere condolences to Margaret and all the family. I have very fond recollections of Uncle Matt on the Moroz Family Farm in Insinger, SK., and at the acreage in Edmonton. Just recently, we spoke about his love for the land and his many childhood memories. He was very proud of his Ukrainian pioneer heritage. My prayers are with you at this very sad time.
