Obituary Overview

In Loving Memory of Eugene Orr

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene (Gene) Orr, age 80 of Moncton, at the Moncton City Hospital on July 22, 2020. Eugene passed peacefully, with his wife Jan and daughter Brenda at his side, after losing a hard fought battle with leukemia. He was the only child of the late Alan and Dorothy (Shaffer) Orr.
Eugene joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at age 18. His career started in Search and Rescue and from there went on to radar stations. With the introduction of computer systems to DND, he took the opportunity to pursue a career in that field. At the time of Eugene’s retirement, he had attained the title of Telecommunications and Information Services Officer at Canadian Forces Base Moncton. Including his service time, Eugene had served the Canadian Forces for 42 years. After retirement, Eugene and Jan took up RV’ing and made many happy memories and many lifelong friends along the way.
Eugene will be sadly missed by his wife Janet (Johnson); son Stephen (Colleen) of Uxbridge ON; daughters Brenda (Noreen) of Riverview NB and Jill Ann Jones of Millcove PE; grandsons Matthew (Michelle) Orr of Halifax NS; 2Lt Conrad Orr of Toronto ON, Garrett Orr of Uxbridge ON and Cpl Alexander Jones of Rusagonis NB and granddaughters Chloe Jones and Sarah Jones at home in Millcove PE.
Along with his immediate family Gene will be missed by cousin and childhood friend Doreen Johnson and his Johnson brothers-in-law Jim (Marla); Mike (Linda) of Moncton and Sterling (Elizabeth) of Riverview and many nephews and nieces. He will also be sorely missed by his little dog Mikey.
Eugene was an adherent of First Moncton United Baptist Church and a member of Keith Lodge No 23 F & AM, and the Scottish Rite Moncton Shrine.
Our sincere gratitude to the staff of the Rubin Oncology Centre, the doctors and nurses on the 4200 Oncology Floor, and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit. Our most heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Megan Richard. Eugene put his total trust in you to help make the right decisions for his care. Thanks for being there for all of us Meg, on duty and off.
At the request of the family, there will be no public services or visitation. A private family service will be held.

If desired, donations in Eugene’s memory may be made to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
