McDonald : Richard “Rick” It is with great regret that Rick McDonald died on the morning of June 16, 2020. Rick will always be remembered for his courage during difficult times over the years. Unfortunately, his struggles with past events and trauma overwhelmed him, and he chose to end his pain on his terms. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Irene McDonald (nee Nowak). He leaves behind his mother, Mary Ellen MacDonald of Dominion, Nova Scotia, his father James of Ontario, his siblings: Louise, James, Ken, and Wanda. He will also be greatly missed by Irene’s siblings: Roswitha, Rainer, Werner, Herb and his many nieces and nephews. The families wish to thank all the family and friends who have given support and comfort to Rick over the years. He was extremely appreciative of the kind words and time spent with him and his wife. The family will receive friends at the Township Chapel of the Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Homes 435 Davis Drive (Centennial at Taylor-Kidd) on Wednesday June 24th between the hours of 1-3 p.m. (Guests will be signed in at our outside concierge when they arrive, and will be given direction at that time on visitation protocol. Guests are also asked to bring a mask.) A private family funeral service will be held, with a public celebration of life announced at a later date. Thank you to all the friends and family who offered support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Wounded Warriors Canada or Soldier On.
