Obituary Overview

Thomas Walter Clifford

With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Tom on January 22 in his 83rd year. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family with a full heart of gratitude. He was the beloved husband of Donna for 57 years and much-loved father; poppy; uncle; brother, brother-in-law, teacher, friend and colleague. He was father to Christopher (Denise), Kerry (David) and Krista. His grandchildren brought him immense joy and pride. He loved them deeply: Kanon (Tina), Cole (Mariah), Kort, Chloe, Christian, Rachel, Luke (Celestine), Atticus and Isabella. Tom was predeceased by both parents Walter and Viola Clifford. He was a wonderful big brother to Nancy Neil and the late Carol Corrigan. Caring brother-in-law to Jane, Tim and the late John. Many nieces and nephews have great memories with Uncle Tom. Tom was a lifelong educator with the separate school board. He was passionate about education and had a positive impact on many students and colleagues. Many remain friends to this day.

He was a man of integrity, selflessness, deep faith and humility.

Tom had a great love for sports. He had a life long involvement not only as a participant, but also as manager and coach. He enjoyed his time being part of the St Linus community in Bath. We are thankful for their prayers and support over this past year. We are also grateful for the support and prayers from extended family, former colleagues, students, friends and other parishes in the dioceses. Finally, we are grateful for the care Tom received from KGH, Providence Care and in particular the staff of Providence Manor, Sydenham 5.

The family will receive friends at the Township Chapel of the Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Homes 435 Davis Drive (Centennial at Taylor-Kidd) on Thursday January 26th from 6-8 p.m. and on Friday January 27th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Rite of Committal with prayers to follow at St. Linus Cemetery in Bath. A reception will take place at the funeral home following the Burial. Memorial donations, for those wishing, may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society or to the charity of your choice.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Tom and Donna have been our great friends for about 9 years. They are two people who were the first to make us welcome when Ken and I joined the congregation at St. Linus in Bath. We enjoyed his warmth and sense of humour especially on Sundays after church when we went to J P Restaurant for Brunch. I will miss his smile as well many other traits and I have thought of the both of them a great deal this year. I know that Tom will be in Heaven looking down on all the people that were a part of his life and I am certain he will get his wings very soon.
