Obituary Overview

In Loving Memory of..

Ms. Irene Sterian passed away on May 8, 2022. We lost a loving mother, daughter, wife, sister, friend, and Canadian business leader. Irene is survived by her husband Stephen, children Lauren, Melanie, and Jake, mother Lya, brother Andrew, and an uncounted number of friends, relations and colleagues whose lives she has enriched. She enjoyed a long career with IBM/Celestica Inc. and was the Founder, President and CEO of the REMAP technology accelerator. Irene
was recognised as an engineering innovator, but one of her greatest accomplishments was setting up her son for success as an adult with autism, and paving the way for other parents to do so. To honour her dedication to innovation in supporting young adults with disabilities we would like to suggest donations to Active Lives Canada Donate | ActiveLivesCanada (https://www.activelivescanada.ca/donate).

A private service limited to invitees of the family will be held on Sunday May 15th at 12:00PM. The service will be live streamed at

Irene Sterian (Webcast) - Funeraweb.tv

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Memories of her will last in our hearts forever.

I had the opportunity to work with Irene to set up a SMTA Renewable Energy Conference in Washington DC. She had developed the soldering process at Celestica for the Solar Panels. She had helped plan the conference. It was an outstanding event. Irene was a very smart woman and anything she tackled turned into an outstanding product. I am glad to have had the opportunity to meet and work with her. She was an early pioneer for women, and she broke the glass ceiling. Her family can be proud and should continue to celebrate her accomplishments. I feel very honored to have the opportunity to work with her.

I'm so sorry to just hear this sad news. I worked with Irene supporting the Canadian manufacturing industry and always admired her leadership and tireless efforts to elevate Made in Canada innovation. My thoughts are with her family, who I was happy to meet at her OSPE Award for contributions to Engineering in Ontario. Sincerely, Michael
