Roelf Van Goor

29-Nov-1950 - 10-Mar-2023

Obituary Overview

Roelf (Ralph) Van Goor

Roelf (Ralph) Van Goor was called home on Friday, March 10, 2023 at the Riverview Health Centre. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Margaret, and his children and grandchildren: Rudy and Jenise Van Goor (Riley and Ted) and Laurence and Alina Kingma (Isaiah).
Ralph was born on November 29, 1950 in Assen, the Netherlands. He moved to Canada in 1975 and came to live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 1990 he met and married Ina Brouwer. Together they had two children, Rudy and Alina. In February of 2001, the Lord called his first wife, Ina, home but graciously allowed Ralph to marry Margaret Vanderlinde in 2004.
Despite Ralph’s many health challenges, he loved to keep busy at home, at work and in the Church community. He worked at Arne’s Welding for 35 years. In retirement, he kept busy with his “The Pop Can Factory”, where he spent hours collecting pop cans and scrap metal to raise money for the handicap. Ralph will be lovingly remembered for the beautiful example he set in deep love and concern for those with special needs.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery. The funeral service will take place at Grace Canadian Reformed Church on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Glen Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Riverview Health Centre and to the many family and friends who visited Ralph in the last weeks of his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cornerstone Christian Care Society.

I have many fond memories of Ralph from the time that our family lived in Winnipeg in the late 80's. Hours of playing Rummikub (where he would frequently rearrange the board completely!) when my parents would invite him over for dinner; camping in his back yard for our year-end school trips; his cheeky grin and cheery "hello's" whenever we would bike past his house. I'd like to offer my sincere condolences. May God grant comfort and strength in the days ahead.
