Captain Bill Finlay passed away peacefully at home in Oakville on his 103rd birthday. A retired Air Canada pilot and WWII veteran, Bill had an incredible life traveling the world, curling competitively, playing golf and watching all the sports he loved.

He remained a skilled athlete into his 90s, and even flew a plane again for his 98th birthday.

Bill was cherished by Shirley, his late wife of nearly 75 years. Beloved by his daughters, Irene, Linda and Dorothy, his grandchildren, Steve, Jenn (Adam), Mike, Nicole and Derek, his great-grandchildren, Evan, Koen, Nathan and Selena and many friends.

Cheers to a remarkable life.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 25th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Glen Oaks Funeral Home, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, ON. Masks and double vaccination required to attend the funeral home. Bill’s funeral will follow on Tuesday, April 26th at 3 p.m. at Maple Grove United Church, 346 Maple Grove Dr, Oakville, ON.  All guests must wear a mask and proof of double vaccination is required at the church.

I recall the Lindsay family playing the Findlay/Brockbank family in the Boxing Day Family Bonspiel many years ago. Bill in the house with my son. Almost 80 years difference in age.

I guess I thought you would live forever it’s so hard to picture Oakville and life without you! Thank you for so many blessings and wonderful moments in life!
