Enrico Caldi

Obituary Overview

In Loving Memory

It is with great sadness and honour that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather Enrico on April 30, 2023.
Son of Angelo and Maria, loving and devoted husband of 61 years to Elsa (nee Fratarcangeli), father of Angelo (Diana) and Carlo (Candice), proud Nonno to Christina and Alana, beloved brother of Teresa (Domenico), Guiseppina (Otello), Dolores (Sergio) and predeceased by older brother Luigi (Speranza) and sister Adele (Luca), loving uncle to his nieces and nephews, a considerate and loyal friend to many – Enrico enriched the lives of the many who were fortunate enough to know him.
Enrico was born on November 4, 1933 and was raised in Sezze, Italy. He spent his younger years riding motorcycles and working on his family’s farm before serving in the Italian military stationed in Sicily. In 1958, he immigrated to Canada, and shortly thereafter moved back to Italy where he met his wife Elsa. After marrying in 1962, Enrico and Elsa moved back to Canada, and began building their life together in Toronto before later moving to Mississauga. While Enrico and Elsa raised their family, he worked as a picture framer, and after retirement began to focus full time on his garden.
Enrico spent his days in the later years of his life tending to the fruits, vegetables, and the beautiful plants he grew in his impressive garden – namely his many rows of tomato plants, zucchini, and flourishing rose bushes. He spent his time riding his bike around the neighbourhood, watching his favourite sports Formula 1 and soccer, sharing passionate views on politics and world issues, and telling stories about his life in Italy. Although he held many passions, his biggest one was the love and devotion he had towards his family. Whether it was family birthdays, holidays, or weekly Sunday lunches, Enrico was happiest eating at the table, surrounded by his loved ones. He was generous, energetic, humble, and independent until the very end, and passed peacefully with his family at his side.

Enrico was and will continue to be loved by those who had the pleasure of knowing him, and will be deeply missed every day.
Family and friends will be received for visitation on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Glen Oaks Funeral Home at 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, ON L6H 7A8. To: Elsa, Angelo, Carlo & Families Since we have been neighbours for many years, I was saddened to hear that Enrico has left us. Now Enrico & my husband Joe can have a chit chat and enjoy a glass of wine together. When Enrico was in his front yard and I would drive by and honk he would always wave at me and smile. I never saw him upset. He was always a real gentleman. May he rest in peace. Your neighbour, Teresa Basso.
