Forever Remembered

Helen Elizabeth Healey (née Schavo) (June 29, 1931 – August 6, 2022) Passed away peacefully and with dignity at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on Friday, August 6, 2022 in her 92nd year. Loving and deeply loved mother of Ellen (Michael), Basil (Marisela), Martha, and Paul (Monique). Dearly loved grandmother of Ian, Grace, Amelia and Meagan. Helen was a proud aunt of Kate, Tim, John, Peter, Beth and Paul. She is survived by her sister Irene Fitzmaurice and her sister-in-law Eileen Mountain. Predeceased by her parents Joseph and Sabina Schavo and her beloved husband, Basil. Helen was a strong, independent woman of grace and integrity. She was a moral compass and loving guide to her family. She was unfailing in her loyalty to and support of her family. She was creative, giving and compassionate. Helen was a registered nurse and graduated from the University of Western Ontario School of Nursing. She valued her ability to be of assistance to others – volunteering to educate women in the early days of breast cancer screening and, throughout the course of her life, supporting many charitable organizations and causes – most particularly those relating to the national and international support of children in need and food banks. She was deeply loved and her gentle spirit will be forever missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Tarek Kazem and the dedicated nursing and support staff of the Palliative Care Team at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion not only to Helen but also to her family. The family is also very grateful to Dr. Russell Mao and the entire team at the Oakville Trafalgar Heart Function Clinic for their expertise and care over the last six years. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Matthew Roman Catholic Parish, Oakville on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, followed by a private family interment. In memory of Helen, a donation to a local food bank of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
