Obituary Overview

Forever in Our Hearts

It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mariano Ferreira, from Oakville, at the age of 77 years old, who departed this world on Monday, May 8, 2023 after his battle with lung cancer.

Mariano was born in Ribeirinha, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, and immigrated to Canada in 1972. He was hardworking, had a passion for gardening, and his lawn was always the envy of the neighborhood as it was his pride and joy. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and especially with his three grandchildren.

Mariano is survived by his wife of 50 years, Esmeralda, along with their three children – Gary (Marlene), Andy (Allison) and Melanie (Carlo); and his three grandchildren – Grace, Nathan and Tessa.

He was preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Maria Augusta, his brothers Jose, Luis and Manuel, and his granddaughter Isabella.

Mariano will be dearly missed by his siblings Alfredo (Luisa) and Maria de Fatima, and his many nieces, nephews and cousins, both here and abroad.

He will be forever in the hearts and memories of many.

A sua vida foi uma lâmpada acesa.

“Eu vou para Deus mas nao esquecerei aqueles a quem amei na terra”. (Santo Agostinho)

I had the privilege to grow up around Senhor Marano, he was like a second dad to all of us growing up. Always had a word of advice to share, always made room at the table for us. A great man and an amazing role model, someone I looked up to. Obrigado Senhor Marano.

In addition to Mariano being the best neighbour ever, he was a dear friend and a comforting presence in the neighborhood. He tended our gardens and lawn like his own. We will miss him so much. Our deepest condolences to Esmie and the rest of the family
