Obituary Overview

Neil Finkelstein

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

I will always remember Neil’s wonderful sense of humour. He could make you smile on the saddest of days. Although I couldn’t convince him to come out for group activities very often, we developed a great relationship, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our 1:1 visits. We would create random silly stories together (like the time he married Gwen Stefani, and then divorced her because she didn’t want to live on a farm with him, and how he felt sorry for Blake Shelton, because she really isn’t as great as he thinks she is) and laugh big belly laughs, the kind that make you cry because you are laughing so hard. What a special person he was. I will always miss him.
