It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of David James Joseph Lyons MD. A beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and friend on May 5, 2021 surrounded by the love of his family.

Forever-loving husband to Diana. Beloved father to Daniel (Nicole), Tarrah, Jordan and Jonathan and cherished grandfather of Michaela, Joseph and Julianna. Dear brother of Gayle Lyons Lafrance, Daniel (late Veronica), Jim Lyons and many loved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his cherished parents Joseph and Cecile Lyons, his beloved daughter Courtney, his sister Jocelyn Lyons and brother Richard Lyons.

Dr. Lyons was a well loved and dedicated doctor who received his medical degree at Queens University at Kingston and his residency in diagnostic imaging at Toronto General Hospital, University of Toronto. Dr. Lyons served as a medical doctor in the Canadian Armed Forces with rank of Lieutenant Colonel for 15 years before leaving to start his own medical practice. David was passionate about his career and over the course of 46 years of practicing medicine, he cared for his patients with compassion, dedication and conscientiousness. He was a brilliant diagnostician and spared no effort in advocating for the best care possible for his patients, who in turn loved and respected him, as did his colleagues. In addition to his medical practice, David was Chair and Medical Director as he pioneered the Ontario Association of Radiologists CBMD Facility Accreditation Program and played a vital role in the OAR’s continuing medical education.

David lived his life by placing God and the value of love for his wife, children, grandchildren and family above all else. David was a humble man, generous, soft spoken, gentle and selfless. He will be sadly missed by many relatives and friends. He will live on in our hearts forever. A very special thank you to the compassionate and caring staff at Hospice Care Ottawa – Ruddy Shenkman Hospice. Donations can be made to the Ottawa Hospice Ruddy Shenkman. Even though I was only able to work with Dr Lyons for 2 years, he will always be a major impact on the sonographer I am today. Dr Lyons always nurtured and advocated for doing all that we can for our patients and to never take short cuts just for the numbers. This should be standard practice, but in the world we live in now, it seems not all health care provider put their patients above all else. He helped me own this and made it possible for me to provide my patients with full care they deserve. He truly cared for his patients, and for the art and challenge of Sonography. I will always appreciate him taking me on as a new sonographer and for being so open to teaching me. He was truly an amazing man and radiologist. I will be forever thankful for my time with him. Thank you Dr. Lyons, and I share my deepest condolences and admiration to his family and friends.
