Obituary Overview

Forever Remembered

It is with the deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Michael Evick, beloved husband of Lise.

Michael was born in the mining town of Anyox, BC and spent his life exploring, digging and collecting fabulous things. A love of minerals set him on a remarkable career path that began at the Vancouver City Museum, transitioned to the Calgary Riveredge and Devonian Group of Charitable Foundations, and ultimately the mineralogy department of the Glenbow Alberta Institute where he sourced and curated some of their world-renowned collections. In fact, Michael was the curator at the Glenbow Museum when it opened in the old courthouse.

It was at Glenbow, that Michael found his life partner Lise, and their beautiful family adventure began. Michael was a legend in the mineralogy world, known for his passion, strong business acumen, technical expertise and comradery. His quest for gems, minerals and native art led him on many adventures including, the Tucson Gem & Mineral show and various expeditions at old mining sites in the US and British Columbia.

Whether after an exciting dig, or on a weekend afternoon, he loved nothing more than gathering with friends at a local restaurant or diner to discuss minerals and the world in general. Legendary in his family as well, Michael is survived by his dedicated wife of 54 years Lise and his daughter Jennifer (John) Dugdale, who was the apple of his eye. He will be missed by his adoring grandchildren Jack and Grace, and will be lovingly remembered by his niece, Vicki Pasternak and nephew, Rick (Juliette) Pasternak. He is survived by his brother Bill (Gloria) Hecimovic and was predeceased by his sister Anne Pasternak and his brother John Hecimovic.

If you know Michael, you will understand that there will not be a service. Please feel free to gather (in socially responsible distances) and share stories. Not everyone knows that Michael had a soft spot for animals, rescuing cats from an early age. If you wish to honour his memory please make a donation to the animal shelter of your choice.
