Dearest Lara and family,

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Dan. He was the sweetest, kindest, most hilarious and passionate soul I ever knew. The first thing about Dan that stands out in my memories of him was how much he loved Lara. He loved her so much and that love was unstoppable. He was always there for her. No matter what. He always wanted to be by her side even if it was while she hung out with me and her other girlfriends, he would jump right in and do our hair. Braids, ponytails, etc. My sister, Erika remembers this detail so clearly. We would hang out in Mickey and Gord’s basement watching Scarface, and he would be braiding someone’s hair. He was always up for fun and so devoted to Lara, their beautiful boys, and their extended family and friends. I keep hearing the warm sound of his voice in my mind. Dan, we will never forget you, never stop loving you and will remember you always. Rest In Peace dear friend.

I’m so grateful for the friendship I had with Dan. We shared many great experiences over the years and a lot of laughs. I loved his ability to find humor in nearly everything. He was encouraging and supportive and made the people in his life feel valued and cared for. To me he was family. He was an incredible partner to Lara and father to his boys. Dan was one of a kind and I will miss him very much.

Dan came to work a number of summers ago at Explace back when we still had a shop. The Indy and the Ex. He wanted to work the night shift with me. What a treat! He was larger than life in all aspects. The man could darken a room by standing in the entrance, but he was the most gentle and beautiful of souls. He was more than twice my size, but as friendly and funny as anyone I have known. He had a keen nose for sniffing out bullshit, but always had a way of seeing humour in it. Did we have fun! He could scare the daylights out of me driving the old shop golf cart around the grounds. Never used the brakes. Scarier than Gord Haldane in the 90's on that same cart! We made fun out of everything.
We made fun of the old movie "Shane". We called each other Shane.. We greeted each other with "I love you Shane" from the movie, but we knew we meant it. I love you always Dan.

I have fond memories of Dan.
One that stands out is his smile and how much he laughed.
Also, I remember hanging out with you and my sister and Dan when we were at malvern. He was so silly with you and sweet.
And always so kind.
