Obituary Overview

In Loving Memory

Ross “Sam” McTavish

Peacefully passed away at home, on Saturday, October 13, 2018, in his 83rd year.

Predeceased by Barbara, his beloved wife of 50 years. Loving Dad to Lisa (Rick) and Donald (Anne) and Grandpa to Nathan, Graham, Samantha, and Andrew.

Ross was very proud to have served for 30 years on the Scarborough Fire Department, retiring as Captain in 1993.

After being diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2007, Ross was the grateful beneficiary of a lung transplant on November 1, 2007. Ross took extremely good care of himself, and his gifted lung, and we gained a bonus 11 years with him for which we will always be grateful.

Ross had recently moved into Scarborough Retirement Residence, where he met many wonderful new friends and received excellent care. Ross loved nothing more than meeting and talking to people, and the Residence expanded his social network in his final months.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the University Health Network Transplant Program.

I had the pleasure of working with ‘Sam’ for a couple of years before his retirement. Sam was a dedicated firefighter and officer who knew what had to be done and how to get it done. He never shied away from the task, or the difficulty of completing the objective. He was a leader by example and an asset to Scarborough Fire. Murray Butson, Division Commander (Ret.) Toronto Fire Services.
