I was Googling friends I hadn't seen for a while and decided to try Michael Gerard. Not only did his name appear, but also his Obituary. Michael Gerard? The photo I saw when I clicked on the site confirmed my shock and disbelief. Sixty two years old. I still cannot believe what I read.
Mike was a wonderful family friend for many years. Sadly, due to life circumstances and changes I lost my connection with him.
He always enjoyed entertaining the girls, dinners with our family, BBQ's and desserts, particularly my home made chocolate chip cookies. I usually sent him home with a care package of his favourites. I recall being at his home years ago checking out his newest and most recent purchase, a treadmill. Upon closer inspection I discovered cookie crumbs had already collected on the sides of the track and an empty glass of milk sat where the water bottle belonged. That was Mike.
I will remember him for the absolute gentleman he was, his generosity and brilliance, his love of banter, sense of humour, and respect for self and others. He was taken far too young but left us with many wonderful and happy memories.
My deepest condolences to Mark, Karen and family, and the many friends who had the pleasure of knowing Mike. He will be missed beyond words but not forgotten. Rest in Peace, kind Sir.
" What a difference one life can make"
Mike was the consummate 'boss', a true and caring individual. I was honoured to be his assistant. Until this morning I had no idea Mike had passed away and am devastated I was unable to pay my respects to him at the Memorial service. Mike will always be remembered by me as a highly respected, genuine individual with a kind and understanding personality.
