Darren Michael Smits

Obituary Overview

Gone Too Soon

It is with great sorrow that the family of Darren Michael Smits announces his untimely passing on May 20, 2020.

Feeling this loss deeply are his parents Arie and Donna and the lights of his life, son Kristian and daughter Aliyah. His brother Kevin and sister Lori (Blake), partner Chelsey, nieces Amy and Sophie, nephew Nathan, uncles, cousins and many, many friends are also deeply saddened.

Darren had a zest for life, sense of adventure and committed himself fully to every endeavour he took on. As a young father he tirelessly advanced his education to provide for his family, as a lawyer he served his clients dutifully and loyally and as a business man he was a driving force behind many development projects.

Above all else, Darren was a family man. He was a loving partner, uncle, brother and son, and most importantly was a dedicated father. Darren’s love, support, friendship and guidance will forever be missed.

If so desired, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation https://www.heartandstroke.ca/ or Kids Cancer Care https://www.kidscancercare.ab.ca/, as he and Aliyah annually raised money for this cause.

A private family service will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.

To soon taken from us who knew his shining light his twinkle or his strenght. He was polite when he had to be and a lion roar when it was needed. He encouraged people to be themselves even if he didn't understand totally. He loved his parents and his grand parents. He always was helping someone with what ever they were doing. He loved his brother Kevin an the hours they spent together meant alot to him even the sore fingers. Lori he adored he wanted the best for her and was worried when she went into hospital. He will be missed by all his friends and loved one yet each kind action each kind word each encouraging word. Ot does not lesen the pain yet it does make his memory more sweeter
