In Loving Memory
Gerry was born in Calgary Alberta, to Joseph and Esther Glenn and was the youngest of two children. He spent most of his childhood life in the Killarney/Glengarry area in the family’s home. He told several stories whereas a young boy he was tasked with looking after several ponies at the Ovin’s farm just up the hill from his house where he organized them for trail rides and such.
He graduated from Western Canada High School in Calgary, Alberta and then took up the Electrical Trade at SAIT in Calgary, Alberta. He worked a few labour type jobs until he joined the City of Calgary. Gerry was originally assigned to the Trolley buses and worked on the overhead lines. He continued with the City of Calgary ultimately obtaining his Master Electrician Certificate. He was assigned to the Electrical Inspection Division where he worked until his retirement in the 1990’s.
Gerry met his wife and sweetheart from Saskatchewan a girl named Anne Bakoway at a dance in downtown Calgary. The two married shortly after and then had two wonderful boys Darrell and Kevin. The family soon found a house in the suburbs in the Acadia area of South East Calgary. This area was close to schools and shopping as the City began its urban sprawl. The family lived there for several years and the kids graduated high school and began their separate lives.
One day their lifelong dream of owning a farm came to be where Gerry and Anne purchased a 40 acre parcel of land and a house in the Dewinton area only a few minutes South of Calgary.
Gerry was a consummate handy man and was always doing something on the farm, from pouring cement to welding and fixing machinery. He always had a few horses on hand and raised a few cows from time to time. He did like taking fishing trips in his boat to Chain Lakes or Kananaskis.
Gerry was a longtime supporter of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and he never missed an opportunity to tell others about the hope that we have in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Gerry is survived by his wife Anne and their two sons Darrell and Kevin (Michelle). Grandsons Austin Glenn and Josh Glenn.
Gerry was predeceased by his sister Leta in 2001.
Gerry will be sadly missed. We love you.
