Manuel Canal, beloved husband for 49 years of Mrs. Pura Canal, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary on April 18, 2020 at the age of 76 years.
He will be remembered with love by his children Jose Manuel and Mariluz, both of Calgary and his four grandchildren: Makayla, Aidan, Abril, and Kira. Manuel will also be sadly missed by the many friends and family members whose lives he touched both here in Canada and in Spain.
Manuel was born in Cobas Del Rio, Merca, Spain and lived there until he and his family moved to Carracedo, Ourense. At the age of 18, he moved to Germany for work and lived there for one year at which point he moved back to Spain in order to complete his one year mandatory enlistment in the military. After serving his time in the military, Manuel moved to Switzerland where he lived and worked for nine years. On a visit home, he met the woman he would soon marry and spend the rest of his life with. They had two children and in 1977 Manuel embarked on yet another adventure. This brought him to Canada with his family where he lived until his last day.
If so desired, memorial donations may be made in Manuel’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (www.heartandstroke.ca/).
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a private family service will be held on April 23, 2020.
