Obituary Overview

A Legacy of Love

Our mother quietly slipped away to join our father in heaven. We are going to miss her.

She is survived by her four children: Sharon Butler (Wayne), Wayne (Edith), Bruce (Nadine), and Lawrence (Lori); nine grandchildren: Kimberley Butler, Douglas Butler (Sarah Watkins), Nicky Melville (Derek), Bill Buchart (Lisa Abbott), Candace Pierce (Don), Carol Cornu (Shaun), Justin Buchart (Robyn), Kody Buchart, and Kaitlyn Buchart ten great grandchildren: Tyler, Mikayla, Brooklynn, Reese, Ryder, Tessa, Dailyn, Zoe, Zachary, and Lyndi; and her brother George Greig (Marie). She was a special aunt to Barry (deceased) and Darcy Buchart. Mom had a special place in her heart for Selena Sealy. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred; her parents James Stuart Greig and Greta Lily Isabelle Greig (née Robe); and her siblings: Henry, Robert, Helen, Lloyd, Vern, and Dorothy.

Mom was born at Trochu, Alberta and grew up on the farm. Shortly after marrying Dad, they moved to Calgary. Dad spent most of his life self-employed as Al’s Lino and Tile and Mom managed the business from home. We all learned at an early age how to answer the phone politely and take a message. Mom and Dad both loved life and people, and were welcomed and enjoyed wherever they went. They instilled in us the importance of family and friends for a healthy, happy life.

After Dad passed, Mom continued to live life for the both of them and I am sure they are sharing lots of stories now. Mom was a dedicated Christian and active attendee of Centre Street Evangelical Church since its inception and a Sunday School teacher/caregiver. She was also an active member of the Alberta Pioneer Auto Club. Mom loved to drive and was the chauffeur for many a non-driver. When we called Mom to chat, we left a message because she wasn’t home. Mom spent the last three months at George Boyack care facility but would not give up her car in case she might need it. Two of her other favorite past times were bingo and puzzles.

Interment will take place at Mountain View Memorial Gardens and a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of choice. Mom had a few favorites and a couple of suggestions are the Salvation Army ( or the Mustard Seed ( in Calgary.
