James 'Jim' Donald Corner

When I am called to Duty, God,
Whenever flames may rage,
Give me strength to save some life,
Whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late,
Or save an older person
From the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert
And hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently
To put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling,
And to give the best in me,
To guard my every neighbour
And protect his property.
And if, according to my fate,
I am to lose my life,
Please bless with your protecting
My fellow firefighters.

Condolences from family and friends

Posted by Mike Kehoe | 03-Feb-2018

To the family of Jim Corner, my condolences at your loss. Having had the opportunity to work with Jim off an on thru my career he became a friend and mentor. It was very clear that Captain Jimmie put his heart and soul into serving the people of Whitby thru the Whitby Fire Dept. Having lived his life in Whitby he was a walking local history book. We could be out doing what we do with our duties and an impromptu history lesson could start at any time, I so relished that. He will be sadly missed. Mike Kehoe
