CRAWFORD, Mary Ann (Molly) (nee Hacking)

(Oshawa’s First War Bride)

Mary Ann (Molly) passed away peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2018, in her 96th year at the Wynfield. Born Mary Ann Hacking in Preston, Lancashire, England on November 27, 1922; the daughter of Mary Ann and Samuel Hacking. She married John Edward Crawford (Jack) on December 22,1944 in Portsmouth, England. Jack was an Oshawa Firefighter stationed in Portsmouth. Molly was a member of the British Firefighting Brigade, also stationed in Portsmouth; when they met. Molly arrived in Oshawa on March 9,1945. Jack and Molly began their married life together and raised their three children. Loving mother of Barbara (John) Krasnay, Dorothy (Doug) and Robert (Melissa). Jack passed away on July 18, 1987. She was the beloved grandmother of Bradley (Andrea), Kimberley (Chris) and Adam (Caroline). Loving great-grandmother of Sydney and Oscar. Beloved sister of the late James, Samuel, Robert Hacking and Ivy Norcross. Survived by her sister-in-law Nancy Hacking. Remembered by nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Mount Lawn Funeral Home 21 Garrard Rd., Whitby (N of Hwy #2) 905 443-3376. Funeral service in the chapel on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 11:00 am. Interment Mount Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Alzheimer Society of Durham Region. The family would like to thank Cardinal Nannies and PSW’s for their homecare and the Wynfield for their care these past five months.
