03-Jun-1930 - 30-Dec-2021
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Magda Berger on Dec 30 2021. She is survived by her children David and Susan Berger, Alan and Lynn Berger and Evelyn Volynsky. Loving grandmother of Jeremy and Tracy, Tara and Sean, Danielle and Aaron, Bryan, Rochelle and Denis and Eric. Devoted great-grandmother of Jackson, Sarah, Lexi, Nathan and Emma. Magda also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by loving husband Harvey, son-in-law Vladimir Volynsky and siblings Louis, Edith and Eugene. Magda was a Holocaust survivor and came to Canada in 1948, where she met the love of her life, Harvey Berger, with whom she shared almost sixty years of marriage. Magda surrounded herself with family, friends and faith. The most important thing in her life was her family, and nothing made her happier than to have everybody sitting around her dining room table, enjoying her delicious cooking. Magda was a dedicated member of the Windsor Jewish Community and the Congregation Shaar Hashomayim Synagogue. She was devoted to helping others and was a proud volunteer and fundraiser for Hospice of Windsor and the Windsor Cancer Centre. A graveside funeral service will be held Friday December 31 at 1:30 pm at the Congregation Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery, 2650 Pillette Rd, Windsor. A private family shiva will be observed. The family wishes to thank Dr. Fortuna, Dr. Shanfield, Dr. Bergeron, her caregiver Grace, and the wonderful staff at Hospice of Windsor and the LHIN for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harvey and Magda Berger Holocaust Education Endowment at the Windsor Jewish Federation, Hospice of Windsor, or a charity of your choice
