It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of Iva, who died peacefully at the age of 84. Iva was the beloved wife of Mariano for 61 glorious years, loving mother to Joe (Viv), Madelena (Mark) and Zelia (Ken), cherished Avó to Meghan (Kevin), Lindsay (Will) Stephanie (Kane),Bruce (Lyndsey) and Colleen (Rick), adored Bisavó to Tison, Scarlett, Millie, Thea, Trent, Mae, Liam, Kayden and Eden, sister to Jacinto (predeceased) and Maria, aunt to many nieces and nephews, and friend to everyone she met. Iva was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal to Manuel and Maria dos Ramos Aguiar (predeceased) and immigrated to Canada in 1963. Iva was a seamstress for many years, and made many dresses, suits, blankets and cuffed many pairs of pants for all. Iva was a woman with great faith and a passion for family and friends. Iva would drop anything she was doing when the kids would come running through the door, and welcomed them with open arms and a smile that would light every room. There was no greater joy for Iva than to cook large, great meals and have everyone seated at her table. There is nothing Iva would not have done to make the lives of those around her better. Iva will be greatly missed by all. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses, on 6th floor south at OTMH, and the caregivers at Chartwell Waterford, who took such good care of Iva. In lieu of flowers, donations to Iva’s favourite charity Operation Smile, would be appreciated.
I am so very sorry to hear this sad news. An email was forwarded to me as I was away travelling from May 9 to May 28th or I would have come out to the visitation. My husband Doug and I lived next door to the Araujos for 30 years. Such lovely neighbours and Eva was always friendly and willing to help out. I have moved now from my house as well but have such fond memories of them. I am really saddened to hear this news, my thoughts go out to the Araujo family.
