Obituary Overview

Alexa Jane Danyliuk

We are heartbroken. We are devastated. Our beautiful Alexa left us suddenly on March 9, 2019 due to catastrophic medical complications arising from a leg fracture.

Alexa brought the sun with her wherever she went, through her bright blue sparkling eyes and radiant smile. She was smart, kind, funny, pretty and successful. She proudly worked as an independent woman in the male-dominated field of electrical engineering, from oilfields to mega-projects and in various locations around the world. She was something of a technical genius, swiftly mastering any new device or program. But she also possessed a strong love of the arts and of her Ukrainian heritage. She was an accomplished and sensitive dancer and musician, performing internationally. She possessed a wild, sometimes caustic sense of humour that could have you rolling on the floor.

Alexa was generous, with a huge heart. She was involved with many charities, most recently with Saskatoon Dog Rescue where she found her beloved dog and constant companion Theo. She was also involved in volunteer programs to encourage young women to enter careers in the sciences.

Her wide array of friends reflects her big personality and her caring for others above herself. The world is a darker, colder place with her absence.

Alexa was predeceased by her grandparents Peter and Anna Prebushewsky and Michael Danyliuk. Left to mourn her loss are her parents, Richard and Janet Danyliuk, her cherished brother Nicholas and Aly Sparks, her Baba Adele Danyliuk, as well as her extended family and many friends.

Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of Holy Trinity, 919 20th Street West. Interment in Woodlawn Orthodox Cemetery.

Alexa Jane Danyliuk

Shadows are falling and I’m running out of breath,

Keep me in your heart for a while.

If I leave you it doesn’t mean I love you any less,

Keep me in your heart for a while.

Hold me in your thoughts,

Take me to your dreams,

Touch me as I fall into view.

When the winter comes,

Keep the fires lit,

And I will be right next to you.

Condolences from family and friends

I recently read Alexa's story in the Globe and Mail. I was touched and inspired to hear of her strong, feminist spirit working in electrical engineering and inspiring other girls to do the same, and by her dedication to and love of animals. I want you to know that her life and her story are not forgotten, and that people, even complete strangers like me, are thinking of her and remembering her, and even more importantly, being inspired by her. Even though she may be gone physically from the earth, her work helping others is continuing through the sharing of her story. Thank you for sharing it!

Dear Janet and family, Please accept our condolences. We were shocked to hear the news of Alexa’s passing. May your fond memories of her help pull you through your grief. As the great poet Mary Oliver asks: “What will you do with your one wild and precious life?” It seems that Alexa took this to heart and considered it a challenge to do as much as she could. Вічная пам`ять!
