Obituary Overview

William Neil Gallichan

On Monday July 6, 2020, Neil Gallichan, husband, father, son, and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 83. Neil will forever be remembered by his beloved wife Argyle of 61 years, and their children, Scott (Carolyn), Kathryn (Marc) and Ian (Jennifer), and grandchildren Daniel, Sarah, Hannah, Rowan, Aaron, and Fiona.

Neil grew up in Toronto near high park, where he spent hours biking and building forts with friends. Neil attended York Memorial High School where he met Argyle who happened to be his makeup artist for his lead role in the play Hamlet.

Their first date was square dancing and they dated until July 31,1959 when they were happily married in Chalmers United Church in Mount Denis, Toronto.

Neil went on to attain his professional electrical engineering degree from U of T placing in the top half of his class. However, following a short engineering career he found his true calling as a teacher. Neil taught for many years, including in Barbados, St. Kitts (for CIDA) and Columbia, and went on to be an impassioned vice-principal and principal back here in Canada. Neil will not only be remembered as a talented teacher and administrator but also as an avid woodworker and sailor, having owned several sail boats and logged many passages as well as living aboard for over a year with Argyle. Neil will forever be in our hearts and thoughts as the captain of the family.

A Service of Remembrance and Celebration of Life will be streamed on Saturday, July 11, at 2 p.m., from Saint Paul’s United Church in Midland. The following link will take you to the Church web site where you will find the link to the streaming video. The link will remain up and be available for viewing and download for several weeks. The family hopes that during these difficult times you are able to join with them virtually to help remember and celebrate Neil's wonderful life.

Argyle and family would appreciate that any donations are directed to Hospice Huronia as Argyle and Neil have been active supporters and Argyle has been a volunteer and trainer in the bereavement support program.
