Obituary Overview

Fondly Remembered

Harry Barrett “Barry” Aker

With heavy hearts we share Barry’s peaceful Sept.04/22 passing in the Hants Community Hospital. He was very grateful for the care he received from HCM, the QE11 Cancer Care Centre, VON and all others involved with his transport and care.

Born in the Payzant Memorial Hospital on Feb.06/47, he first attended school in Deep Brook, Annapolis County before moving back to live in the Windsor area for most of his life. He later furthered his education at the Adult Day School. Working at various jobs, he became known as a very dependable employee wherever he went, especially with NS Textiles and the Hants County Exhibition Grounds.

Barry, a dedicated AA member, was proud of his accomplishments with their support and was happily displaying his 36yr medal which he just received Aug.30 2022.  He enjoyed all social occasions with his AA family, up to 10 meetings/wk, Round-Ups, Spiritual Retreats and weekend gatherings.

He also volunteered for the Salvation Army and at Harvest House. In his spare time he completed many jigsaw puzzles, word search, loved listening to country music and socializing with friends at Tim’s.

Barry is survived by his son, Jeff Aker (Greenwood); mother, Anita Aker (Union Corner); siblings, Gail Campbell (Derrick) Whitby, ON; Marsha Millard (Rick)Dartmouth; Shelley Currie (Stirling)Windsor, Chris Aker (Gail Cumben), Three Mile Plains and Lorna Veinot (Ron) Kentville. He was predeceased by his father Olin “Olie” Aker,
Windsor.

Cremation has taken place.

Arrangements are under the care of the Lindsay Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 15th at 11:00 a.m. in the Harvest House Community Centre, 101 Stannus St., Windsor, NS. All are welcome.

He’d be proud if we’d all share a random act of kindness with others.

Donations in his memory to Harvest House Community Outreach, Windsor and the Salvation Army would be appreciated. To have your donation listed, please phone Lindsay’s (902-798-2232).

“As long As Hearts Remember”

As long as hearts remember,
As long as hearts still care,
We never part with those we love --
They're with us everywhere...
So many of our precious memories
Of those we hold so dear
Bring peace and comfort to us now
And keep our loved one near.
