I just learned of Russ passing today. He was a resident at CPRI in London prior to his move to Penetang where he completed his training. I never met a psychiatrist who was more empathetic or knowledgeable about his patients than Russ. I expect he testified at more NCR trials than any other doctor.

After I joined the ORB, Ann and I would visit Pat and Russ when I did hearings at Penetang. Those contacts were the highlight of week.

My deepest condolences to Pat and family.

This wise and wonderful man gave me my first job after leaving residency in psychiatry. He and his wife welcomed me to Georgian Bay area. I deeply admired him. He was hard working and relentless in managing the hospital and caring for patients. He was good to people, everyone. He is missed.

I was one of the many fortunate Waypoint/MHCP employees to have worked with Russ over his many years of service here at the hospital. I also had the privilege of working with him as he volunteered at the hospital after his retirement and was a great supporter of the Waypoint Volunteer Association. Over the years he did such great work and displayed many acts of kindness to staff and patients.

I'm so sad to hear of the passing of Mr. Fleming. Being an elementary school friend with his daughter, I spend many sleepovers at the Fleming house. I remember Mr. Fleming as being calm, kind, and seemed to have a love of Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. Mrs. Fleming, John and Melanie, I'm so very sorry for your loss. You're in my thoughts during this difficult time.

Sad to learn that Russ passed. We studied medicine together at Western many years ago. I got to know, like, and respect Russ for his calm, gentle spirit and easy smile. He was well respected as a psychiatrist, and I enjoyed catching up with him at reunions. Russ Fleming will be missed by family, friends, patients, and colleagues.

I had the esteemed privilege of working with Dr. Fleming. He was a source of great knowledge in psychiatry particularly the forensic sciences. He taught me about trees, farming and fishing. I also associated with him socially. He was humble and ever willing to help. I will miss him dearly.

Pat, John and Mel, we are saddened by the news of Russ's passing.

For many years in his roll as my immediate supervisor at the MHCP, he was always up to the task of maintaining that our primary focus remain on the client. Always diligent and fair, he was an amazing roll model and guide. Working beside him has been one of life's highlights.

I treasure the many days that Russ, I and others spent in boats fishing. It seemed that luck was always with us. These adventures brought us closer and my respect and love for my friend grew.

The "pool" evenings when Russ partnered with Adèle and you with me usually resulted in high pressure contests but as always, laughter and fun prevailed. Overall, I think he would declare the evenings a draw!

We will miss Russ as we honour him in recognizing that he has lead a purposeful life in the service of others; an example to all of us.

Love,
Marty and Adèle
