Dr. Donald Carom passed away peacefully on January 6, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Dearest husband of 49 years to Laure. Devoted father to Michelle Bertakis (Jimmy), Donald Carom (Jennifer) and loving grandfather of Sophia and Sienna Carom. He is survived by his sister Diane Eid (Leroy) and brother Peter Carom and his mother in law Mabel Thomas. He was predeceased by his father Fred Carom, his mother Adele Carom, and his brothers George Carom (Pam) and Robert Carom. He is also loved and will be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Dr. Don was a compassionate and dedicated family physician who devotedly and with utmost care attended to the needs of his patients and their families for 47 years. For him medicine was a vocation and a passion. He touched the lives of so many people with his easy going personality and his light hearted sense of humour that kept everyone smiling. A man of many interests and talents outside of medicine, he was a trained pilot, an artist, a singer, even a stamp collector and model train enthusiast. An avid reader who loved to learn, he fed his insatiable appetite for knowledge with a legendary fortress of books. You wouldn’t find him on a golf course, but if the clubhouse or restaurant had a karaoke machine with Sinatra songs, he’d be there with bells on. He was a proud graduate of Assumption High School, Assumption University and The University of Toronto School of Medicine. Don was also a lifetime member of The Essex County Medical Society, as well as the Ontario Medical Association. Many thanks to his dedicated and supportive medical team who have been involved in Don’s care, especially all the caring doctors and nurses in the CCU unit. We truly appreciate you all for your compassion and care and for the kindness and respect you showed him .
Visitation for those who are fully vaccinated will be held at Victoria Greenlawn Funeral Home 1525 Hwy#3 (519- 969-3939) on Wednesday. January 12th from 2 to 5pm and 7 to 9pm. Don was a man of unwavering faith and will be missed but not forgotten. His was a life well lived. He leaves behind a wonderful and lasting legacy of love, kindness and caring.
