John Dlugos of the Highlands, BC passed away peacefully, April 10 at Oak Bay Lodge. He leaves to cherish his memory: sons David (Ruth de Fehr, Victoria, BC), Robin Craig (Crossfield, AB), John Michael (Nataliya Sokolova-Dlugos, Loydminster, SK), and daughter Kasandra Wood (Gary, Belleville, ON); his five grandchildren, Rory Dlugos (Melanie, Grande Prairie, AB), Kristen Dlugos (Adam Long, Crossfield, AB), Cody Wood (Jessica Wilson-Wood, Toronto, ON), Teela Wood (Belleville, ON), and Andriy Sokolov (Loydminster, SK); three great-grandchildren William Long (Crossfield, AB), and Adeline and Wren Wood (Toronto, ON); sister Edna Sebok (Andy, Saskatoon, SK), brother Jim, brother-in-law Ern, sister-in-law Marilyn, and numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife Donna Miller Dlugos (2014); parents, Katherine and Joseph; brothers, Bob and George; sister, Margaret; and sisters-in-law, Lois and Jean. John grew up in Saskatoon, SK, attending King George public school. Later, while attending tech school and playing football for the Saskatoon Hilltops, John was drafted into the inaugural 1949 Edmonton Eskimos team. John played for three seasons while attending the University of Alberta, where he met the love of his life, Donna Delores Miller. They were married on October 4, 1952 and on their wedding day attended an Edmonton Eskimos football game. He completed a degree in civil Engineering, and worked in the oil patch in Oklahoma and Alberta. He was hired by British American Oil (Gulf), where he worked until his retirement at age 62. John and Donna raised four children in Stettler, AB, later moving to Calgary. Upon retirement John and Donna moved to their personal paradise in the Highlands on Vancouver Island, BC. John had a passion for building, building the family home in Stettler, and buildings on the property in the Highlands. He continued to enjoy this hobby throughout retirement. A celebration of John’s life will be held on May, 12, 2018.
